OCR - Optical Character Recognition

We speak about this a lot here. OCR is a technology used to interpret the pixels in an image as characters that form words and numbers. These words and numbers are the basis for most capture applications. Without OCR you have pixels. And understanding where on an invoice the total amount is, that is much easier if you look at words and numbers, instead of pixels.
